“Remember: there are no small parts, only small actors.”
–Constantin Stanislavski
Some people find acting is a non-essential career, to be honest, I agree with that idea considering all the people who want to be an actor/ actress its hard to compete and let’s be honest in the industry of films its selective they choose the looks first before they consider if you are that capable but the sad side of this if somehow you don’t have the looks they put you in a position in a comedic role which always happens in the film industry in the Philippines so that’s:
Looks + acting (with or without skill) = best roles No looks + comedy roles ( even the person has the best skill in acting) = comedic roles
But lets set aside those things okay let’s not put acting as a career that you need to have the skill to be better at it, let’s consider acting as a hobby or maybe a way to learn new skills for me I consider acting as a craft because I a craft you need to keep on learning and keep on putting yourself out there to master this craft and within this craft you learn other things , things that you can use in your general life or in other careers that you venture too.
1. UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD AND THE PEOPLE

Being an actor/actress you play roles, roles of people you don’t know or people you’ve heard off and you put yourself in those shoes and in their perspective in the world, either you play the bad guy or the good guy you feel their emotions on why they do what they need to do, their motives and goals from there you learn to understand other people who might be in the same situation like the characters that you play.
2. CONFIDENCE AND BEING OPEN TO REJECTIONS

We all have those moments when we just freeze, get tongue-tied or being affected by rejections and its common to us people to have those things happen to us, what acting teaches us also is being open to these things especially with rejections, Going to job interviews or talking to your crush it engages you on how to communicate which you do in acting.
3. YOUR CRAFT IS YOUR ASSET

When I do seminars about film or acting I always tell them when you become a filmmaker or a moviemaker it’s not about having the fancy camera its what you have and what your mind can do and when your actor you never need a camera to set up a career in there all you need is you yourself and the mindset to keep pushing and keep on learning the craft hence the word ” GET YOURSELF OUT THERE”.
4. IT IS A SMALL COMMUNITY BUT ITS A LOVING COMMUNITY

I live in Baguio city and believe me when I say THE ACTING COMMUNITY HERE IS SOOOOO VERY SMALL but even its small there is a lot of love in the craft that’s why we created BAGUIO ACTING CLUB it’s a small group of people who love acting and who wants to learn and develop their craft in acting.
5. RESPECT THE CRAFT AND RESPECT THE PERSON

Everyone has their own style and approach in proceeding a certain work, kinda like food if you taste a burger in one restaurant you can’t expect it would be the same as any other restaurants, we all have certain aspect of understanding on how we proceed things same goes at acting each one of us has a different style of crafting towards it from there it imprints to what kind of actor/ actress you are.
So lest go back to what I said before yes its non- essential in any form of work but from acting learning things from it and the aspect it gives, it opens up possibilities, but this is just some of the things that you can learn from acting.
If you’re from Baguio why not try acting? will be having an OPEN AUDITION together with Baguio Acting Club and Baguio Film Club we aim to create a community for actors and filmmakers in Baguio city to give them venue, to create films, to let them build networks and more importantly to develop and showcase their craft to everyone
